Appointments

How to see your doctor - Appointment System

Access to a clinician varies for each patients individual reason for visiting the practice. We attempt to accommodate each individual's requests but also have to use an appointment system that suites the majority.

We have found that most patients contacting the surgery wish to be seen 'on the day' and only around 20% of patients require an appointment in the future for a review etc.

The options for booking to see a clinician are:

  • On the day: Calling the surgery on the day with an acute illness / calling to see a clinician regarding ongoing problems.
  • Advanced Booking: Booking for a follow up appointment / review
  • Online: These are standard appointments bookable through our website
  • Sit & Wait - For acute on the day appointments where a patient has become ill over night or on the day and the severity is not that which would require a 999 call.

Clinicians - Who can I see and when?

Dr Shepherd Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
Dr Chipchase Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Janice Johnson (Advanced Practitioner) Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

The clinicians are available between 8.00am and 6.00pm daily with extended hours available from 7.00am (please contact reception for specific times).

Home Visits

There is a fairly wide-held belief that patients have an automatic right to a home visit from a GP within core hours (8am to 6pm). This is not in fact the case. We will arrange a home visit for a patient whose condition, in the opinion of the doctor, warrants it.

If you request a doctor to visit you please telephone before 10.30am. We will take your telephone number and a GP will call you back and arrange the appointment with you.

District Nurse Appointments

The District Nurse is the leader of a Nursing Team. Please leave a message at the reception if you need any help from the District Nurse. Alternatively you may ring the Clinic Clerk to contact the District Nurse.

Health Visitor Appointments

The Health Visitors attached to the practice are available to advise on all aspects of childcare. They are available and accessible for all age groups and all health problems. You can contact them through reception to discuss matters either in the surgery or in your home. Alternatively you may ring the Clinic Clerk to contact the Health Visitor.

Missed Appointments

If you cannot keep your appointment please inform the surgery. Cancelled appointments can be offered to someone else in need of an appointment.

Please be aware: This practice has the policy of requesting the Health Authority to remove patients from the practice list if they fail to keep three booked appointments in a three month period.
